It’s Been Years Coming…

It’s Been Years Coming…

When we first started dreaming of homesteading, I researched different animals and breeds that I would want. We dreamed of cows, so naturally I landed on the Scottish Highland. Their beauty and unique characters set them apart in my mind. (I’m an Enneagram 4w5 – I’m all about being unique, I run from trends and […]

Spring is (Seemingly) in the Air

Spring is (Seemingly) in the Air

After church today, the kids and I went outside to get to our car. Dave had already left to go cut wood for our ceiling project that has been on hold for almost 2 years (YAY!!!!!), so it was just the kids and me. Walking out into the sunshine made me smile. As we all […]

It’s Food Time!

It’s Food Time!

Getting the animals their food is a process, especially when it’s just you and a toddler. While this particular (and adorable I might add) toddler LOVES being outside – obsessed is an adequate word to describe it – he doesn’t make it easy. Carrying him with the bottles for the goats, hay, buckets for the […]

What’s The Worst That Can Happen?

What’s The Worst That Can Happen?

Maybe I’m not alone in this. Sometimes I choose to walk around a store for tens of minutes looking for something before I ask someone who would know exactly where it is right away. By a show of hands, who does this on a regular basis?   Sometimes I walk up and down the aisles of […]

A Hopelessly Unromantic 12th Anniversary

If you follow us on Instagram, you’ll have seen a bit of our 12th anniversary story. But I wanted to give the whole story to you all. It all started with us getting up at 5:30 am to make sure the triplet kids that were born the Thursday before were fed. Their mama did not […]

New Year, New Start

New Year, New Start

Over the last many months, randomly Dave or I would look at each other and say something like, “This is something we should be blogging about,” and yet neither of us would pull the trigger. Why that is, I’m not really sure. I felt this pressure that we needed to be actually accomplishing something in […]

It’s seed starting time!!! We’re determined th It’s seed starting time!!! We’re determined this year to make our garden last through the winter...or at the very least save SOME fruits of our labor.
.
We’ve never been successful at producing more than we consume over the summer, but this year will be different. Even if it’s with just onions that we have extra. That alone will be a win.
.
Today saw planting of onions, peppers, cauliflower and broccoli. Because peppers have never produced as much as they could, and cauliflower and broccoli had a “meh” kind of start last year, were determined to succeed. And if they don’t sprout, we still have time.
.
Someday we may consider ourselves “master gardners”, but for now, we have a long long way to go. But that’s completely ok. We’re excited about the learning journey.
